Query
(February 19, 1955 - March 9, 2012)

WORCESTER-George A. Query, 57, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at Rose
Monahan Hospice Home after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

He leaves his wife Rosann (D’Allessandro) Query; two sons,
Christopher and Thomas, both of Worcester; his father, Arthur G. Query
of Worcester; and three grandsons, Tyler, Dominic and Tyler. He also
leaves his sister, Andrea Caplan (wife of Ira) of Worcester; two
brothers, Joseph Query of Danbury, CT and Thomas Query of Worcester; and
many “favorite” nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was
predeceased by his mother, Mary (Hannan) Query in 2007.

He was born in Worcester and graduated from Burncoat High School,
where he was very active in the horticultural program. George worked at
Holy Cross College for 37 years and was foreperson of the grounds
overseeing the greenhouse. Prior to that, he worked at the former
Charlie’s Surplus starting at the age of 12 and continuing until the
store closed.

His love for horticulture was evident with his part, along with James
Long and the rest of the grounds crew in the ten national awards
received at the college, and also with his involvement in the
development and caretaking of the grounds at Hope Lodge and the Rose
Monahan Hospice Home.

He was a member of the Professional Grounds Management Society and
was the recipient of the President Award for the New England branch
newsletter and photographs. George was also an agriculture educational
advisor at Burncoat and Worcester Technical Schools, an avid
photographer, and he was the videographer for 7 Hawks Media. George was a
“friend of Bill” and he was a strong supporter of the American Cancer
Society.

The family would like to thank the cancer unit at Mass General
Hospital on Yawkey Way, especially to Dr. Allen, his nurse practitioner,
Emily and his nurse John. They would also like to extend a special
thank you to Holy Cross College for the generous love and support
throughout George’s illness.

A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at 7:30 PM on Wednesday,
March 14 at CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street.
Visiting hours will be from 4:00 pm until the time of the service.
Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice
Home, 10 Judith Rd., Worcester, MA 01602 or the T&G Santa Fund, C/O
Commerce Bank, P.O.Box 15204, Worcester, MA 01615-0204. To place an
online condolence please visit www.callahanfay.com

Sunday, March 20, 2011 noon until 6:00 p.m. College of the Holy Cross Hogan Center

To know George, is to love George … the consensus is unanimous. You’ll hear people who know George describe him as
a wonderful, caring, supportive and talented individual, who would rather help someone than be helped. However, he is
the one who is in need of some help now and you, too, can help us to help George.

In April 2010, George was diagnosed with colon cancer, which quickly spread to his liver and lungs. Almost immediately,
George began undergoing extensive chemotherapy treatments in Boston, and these chemo treatments continue today.
George was suddenly launched into a courageous battle to save his life. And, it hasn’t been easy – weekly trips into
Boston are tiring and costly – though somehow through it all George manages to keep an amazingly positive outlook and
spirit. Ask George how he’s doing and, no matter what, his response will be, “I’m great, doing good, alive … much better
than the alternative!” What a fantastic attitude to have.

Recently George had to leave his position that he held for 37 years at Holy Cross College to go on disability. Times have
become a bit difficult. Financial instability in a time of illness is not something any family should have to endure. Anyone
who has been through it knows this is true. It’s difficult enough to fight the battle without worrying about how to manage
out-of-pocket medical expenses and keep up with the daily bills.

That’s why family and friends have joined together to organize a fund-raiser to help ease any financial hardships George
and his family may be experiencing. A fund-raiser will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2011, from noon until 6:00 p.m. at
the College of the Holy Cross Hogan Center and everyone, whether you know George or not, is invited to attend the
event. An afternoon of fun, food, live entertainment and raffles has been planned. An account to support the fund-
raiser also has been set up at TD Bank, Grafton Street, Worcester, MA. If you’d like to make a cash donation – any
TD Bank location in the Worcester will be accepting donations – checks may be made payable to “An afternoon of caring
for George Query.”

You can help in other ways, too!!! Raffle items, and/or gift certificates, are desperately needed to support the fund-raiser.
A program is being designed to support all who donate raffle items. Within the program is also an ad booklet, where you
can purchase space to promote your business and/or wish George well with a personalized message. Any support you
can provide will be greatly appreciated. There is no greater pleasure than helping someone in need. We thank you in
advance for your generosity and look forward to seeing you at the event.

For more information, please contact the fund-raiser organizer, Pat “Giggles” McHugh at 508-340-0721.

0

Share

0

;" class="stLarge">;" class="stLarge">;" class="stLarge">

the Boston Neighborhood project Opens tonight

For the past three years, 26 BPC members have documented Boston
neighborhoods and we’re excited for the first exhibition! This
project began as an expansion of our “Public Garden Project” which has
been held during the past four summers. As Boston-area photographers, we
thought it most important to document our own urban environment.

We invite you to attend the opening of our first exhibition on
Wednesday evening. The exhibition has been curated by Banafsheh Ehtemam,
and co-organized by Katherine Kominis and Sanjay Subbanna. Each BPC
member who created a photo documentary of a Boston neighborhood will
exhibit one photo from their portfolio. From 7 to 8 p.m., the
photographers will host a discussion and will show additional photos.
Please come to see some great photos, hear about documentary
photography, and support BPC members!

                    Dear Mr. Kapps!

I heard that you plan to sell Polaroid film next year. Can you tell me how I can make one myself?

P.S.: My name Konrad and I'm nine years old.

                Dear Konrad,

Thank you for your letter! I have to admit, it turns out to be much
more difficult than I thought it would be to make your own instant
film. Fortunately our small but excellent team at the Impossible
factory in Enschede has finally (with a lot of luck) found out that it
is highly possible to produce a NEW instant film with a new recipe. If
all goes well this film will be usable with old Polaroid cameras. But
the time has not come yet - just last week a new, unexpected problem
appeared which we are now trying to fix.

That's
why we do have to reschedule our presentation in New York which was
planned for February 22nd. Of course we are not giving up we will
finally announce whether our mission is impossible or not on

22nd MARCH 2010.

We will do our best to be in the
position to present a final answer that will make you smile and your camera "Click" again.

Please keep all your fingers crossed.

Sincerely yours,

heard the sad news by now: Howard Zinn (historian, activist, author, and
all-around great human being) passed away yesterday at the age of 87. We will
remember him as a truly remarkable man who encouraged us all to be critical of
unequal relationships of power and their effects on the way our histories are
told. And despite his acute awareness of the many problems of our society, we
will also remember him as someone who never gave up hope for a better world:

"To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the
fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of
compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in this complex
history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our
capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places--and there are
so many--where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to
act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a
different direction. And if we do act, in however small a way, we don't have to
wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of
presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of
all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory."--Howard Zinn, from
"The Optimism of Uncertainty" (2004)
died last Saturday. He was 81. As a photographer, his early influences
were Walker Evans and Edward Weston. As a curator at the Museum of
Modern Art (Edward Steicehn chose him as his own replacement), he
introduced Diane Arbus, Lee Friedlander and Garry Winogrand in his
exhibition “New Documents” at the Museum of Modern Art in 1967. “Their
aim has been not to reform life, but to know it,” he said at the time.
In 1976, he introduced the work of William Eggleston. There’s so much
more. But more than anyone of his generation, he played a key role in
elevating photography to the level of art. A retrospective of his own
work toured the country starting in 2005, ending a year later at the Modern. There’s an excellent interview with him here in LA Weekly. Lens Culture has a small collection of his photographs. (Cross-posted at APAD.)

as a Minnesota Native as well the other name that pops is Warren Mckanzie Mckanzie Now mosklikey in his 80"s now graduating from the University of Wisconsin (art history) in

The Exposure Project picks up a topic
that I have been worried about for quite a while: "Catastrophes such as
Hurricane Katrina certainly need to be documented, in order to bring
awareness and understanding to issues that require resolution. However,
when this documentation becomes too abundant it can act
counterproductively. The real questions that need to be asked are, is
there a point of saturation where this imagery become ineffective? And
to what extent is this work created at the emotional expense of those
truly impacted?" Note that this discussion is not necessarily about
whether or not to show people!

Of intrest in today

          The Photo Candy Store

      Thinking
about it, photography really is like candy, isn't it? You got the
intensely sweet stuff that you tend to overindulge in and that's really
not good for you (think cotton candy), the classic stuff that many
people tend to forget about (think Necco Wafers) or the simple classic stuff that will never go out of fashion (think Peeps),
you got hard candy and soft candy, etc. etc. etc. But that kind of
photography would be what candy? Maybe, just to get the ball rolling, a
lot of the Düsseldorf school stuff would be salty licorice, quite the acquired taste, yet ultimately really good for you.

intresting palces to visit

Whene your in San Francisco near filbright Street you have to find this palce...
fun slides in the middle of nowhere? Which supervisor authorized this pork barrel spending? They should have built the slides in Union Square where we can all enjoy them daily during our lunch breaks. It's heart breaking how isolated these concrete shoots are.

But alas I found them, yeah I did. Oh plus, it was 1am. yes.

So yeah they are scarier than they look. I thought my pants were going to rip off if I fell off my little cardboard box. But I didn't fall off the box, so I'm really not sure if there is serious nudity risk. I'll give it a nudity probability rating of 10%

Anyways if you haven't already, go find this place, it's crazy. Kinda like the twilight zone, or the nexus of the universe, or something. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll run up the hill and go again.
ho and try this link Check it out on youtube.com. Just type in Jeremy Reeves, Crime in the City (City skateboards rock!) and when the window pops up, you will recognize the spot immediately!

Tomorrow I'm going to find a contractor to build me a slide in the office, or maybe a fireman's poll. We need more schoolyard modes of transport in our daily lives.

For the best ride possible:
-Wax paper UNDER cardboard. Wooh, supercharged!
-Don't go on damp (foggy/recently rainy) days/nights; the moisture adds to friction and slows the ride
-Keep arms in, wear long sleeves, and pants, and real shoes
-Use feet as brakes near the bottom. The sand pit is deceptively shallow.
-As hard as it is to not be loud, try to keep it down if you come here during the middle of the night, or the neighborhood residents might kick you out

Art Photography Shows...

For the current New Hampshire Art Association show, Linda has returned to making unique photo-collage constructions she call's "centripetals". Linda coments that "These dynamic, often whimsical (occasionally ironic) pieces are punctuated by colorful ball-headed map pins, and radiate outward from a central point and resemble quilt-like mandalas. Each is highly textured and unique, requiring hours of lucid dreaming, envisioning, creating, printing and playing with images which work best when composed in this mode. Every aspect is done by me, with the exception of the custom-made plexi shadowboxes. "
